Hello, everyone! I'm Iván, a Junior Game Designer. I graduated in Audiovisual Studies (UDC) and have a Master's Degree in Videogame Design, Development and Marketing (UDC).
I developed "Valico: The Grim World", and received an award at the Xuventude Crea Programme. I also developed "Last way." for my Master's Degree final project.

About me

I'm a Game Designer based in Galicia, Spain. I know many fields of videogame development: from the early stages creating the documents, to the different parts of the 3D modelling, or the use of marketing techniques to try to achieve a successful launch.In the last 3 years I've worked doing UX, Narrative Design, Level Design, Sound Design and Game Design among other fields.

Last Way

Last Way is a 2.5D side-scrolling platformer videogame set in a cyberpunk future. You play as Jax, a young man who is working for a criminal organization to earn money, and you will use the help of Jax's cyber arm and drone to progress through the levels. You can choose to fight enemies or use stealth against them.

  • Wrote every dialogue in the game.

  • Created controls and UI blocking based on UX.

  • Created Level 1 map.

  • Tested during all the development, recording and reporting bugs.

  • Searching, editing and implementation of sound effex.

Valico: The Grim World

Xuventude Crea 2021 (Spain) - 2nd prize in "Video Game Development" category.

Valico: The Grim World is a third person action game inspired by the 3D The Legend of Zelda games. Play as Cassidy, a young orphan who has to leave his village to find the cure to a plague that asolates the region of Valico, having to defeat the Gods in his journey and travelling through a Celtic world.

  • Wrote every dialogue in the game.

  • Created and dressed the levels.

  • Created the GDD.

  • Tested during all the development, recording and reporting bugs.

  • Developed the game using Unreal Blueprints.

  • Designed the maps.

  • Created de cinematics.

  • Implemented the sound in the game.

Carambola

Game created for the Legends of Learning company.

Created during my internship in Digital Monsters Collective.

Carambola is an educational videogame created for the Legends of Learning platform having a target of middleschoolers on mind. In it you play billiards with the different planets and astros that could be found on the Solar System, learning about them in an fun different way.

  • Wrote every dialogue in the game.

  • Created the GDD following the instructions and needs of Legends of Learning and the syllabus.

  • Designed the level mockups.

Last Way

Last Way is a 2.5D side-scrolling platformer videogame set in a cyberpunk future.Jax, a young man who is working for a criminal organization, infiltrates buildings to steal items for them. His cyber arm helps him move around and fight.In Last Way you play as Jax, an ex-student that loosed his arm and parents in an accident the same day. After that Jax decides to enter a criminal organization, where starts to work doing minor jobs to earn money for himself and his little brother. The boss of the organization get wind of his incredible actions and decided to promote and give him and cyber-arm to improve his efficiency on the field.With the creation of Jax, the team and I wanted to present and allow players to play as a main character that has a disability and a prosthetic arm, and even yet letting players feel powerful, showing not disabilities are impediments to being strong.

valico: the grim world

Valico: The Grim World is a third-person action game inspired by the 3D The Legend of Zelda games.Cassidy, a young orphan, has to leave his village to find the cure to a plague that isolates the region of Valico, having to defeat the Gods in his journey.Valico is a videogame conceptualized following the traditions, history and myths of the land I live in: Galicia. Everything designed for the videogame has a reason to be, to exist. It's such an important project for me because it's not only my first major demo and the final project of my degree, the one I presented to graduate myself; it's also the combination of tradition and lore of my country.

Worked as Narrative Designer, Game Designer, Sound Designer, Developer, Enviroment Artis and Tester.

Personal Projects

Here are some of my personal projects that I have done during the course of the past years. Most of my work is focused on the narrative field, but as you could observe there is no field in the Game Design I didn't touch.

The Robbery

The Robbery is a short Twine game focused exclusively on the narrative. Following 2 expert thieves, we make decisions on what is our next step towards a successful heist. This project was created as an assignment for a class within 10 minutes.

Tarrio

Tarrio was my very first video game ever. It was started as a prototype for one final assignment during the course of my degree. The game mixtures a graphic adventure with little sections of action and combat. Was programmed by me using Unreal Blueprints, and the 3D assets and animations are from different free sources.

Tarrio

Tarrio is a third-person project made in Unreal Engine 4 as part of a final assignment that mixtures a graphic adventure game where you, as a player, have to find a way to leave the town collecting money, exploring and doing favours to the villagers in return of objects you'll need to exit; and action game, with a combat system used in one level of the game.The project was created intended to be part of my degree's final project, Valico: The Grim World, but ended as a project used to learn Unreal Engine 4, but created with the narrative setting and story background of Valico.

Programming on Blueprint

The entirety of the project is programmed using Blueprints, the visual language created for Unreal Engine.Elements such as coins, damage zones and healing zones are completely functional with this method.

Set dressing

The game was created using a mixture of free assets from 3D repositories and packs gotten on the Unreal Marketplace.All these assets, together with others taken from websites like Mixamo to quickly animate characters, were used to give the town life and its own story, creating ruins of abandoned builds, fields of wealth, a tavern and a main plaza.

Combat system

To add more variety to the gameplay a combat system was implemented so as enemies with a health bar UI that appears by proximity.The melee combat system has incorporated a combo system as well.

Sound Design

A highlight of the project is the sound design of each playable space, all of which are recognisable and in keeping with the visual appearance of each stage.For this, sound bank sources with creative commons licenses and free of copyright were used, as well as part of the original soundtrack of Valico: The Grim World composed by Fernando Rouco.

This modelling set consists of 13 pieces created to be used as a modular set that allows the creation of different military barracks from the World War 2, one hard surface model and one soft surface model that are a military chest and a military bed with its own pillow to have a better dress of the set.
